[The committee met at 09:02.]
The
Chair: — Okay. Good morning. We will convene
the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. I’d like to introduce the members
that are here today: Deputy Chair Nerlien, Ms. Lisa Lambert, Mr. Todd Goudy,
Mr. Daryl Harrison, Mr. Delbert Kirsch, Ms. Aleana Young.
We have the following items to table:
PAC 137‑29, Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety: Responses
to questions raised at the February 5th, 2024 meeting; PAC 138‑29,
Ministry of Highways: Responses to questions raised at the February 5th, 2024
meeting; PAC 139‑29, Ministry of Education: Responses to questions raised
at the February 7th, 2024 meeting; PAC 140‑29, Ministry of Education:

public losses, January 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024; PAC 146‑29, Ministry of

Ministry of Finance: Report of public losses, January 1, 2024 to March 31,
2024.
Okay, folks, we’ll now move along to the
consideration of attendance at the CCPAC/ CCOLA [Canadian Council of Public
Accounts Committees/Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors] conference in
Quebec, Quebec, September 8th to 10th, 2024.
Of course we participate in this
conference every year. It’s the one opportunity that brings together the Public
Accounts committees from across Canada and our respective council, CCPAC, along
with the auditors from across Canada, each of the respective provinces and
territories and the national government, along with the Clerks of the
committees for each of those public accounts for both the federal government
and the respective provinces and territories across the country.
And so we’ve participated in the past
each and every year to various levels depending on a few different factors, on
schedule and whatnot. But it’s — from my perspective and, I think, those that
have had the opportunity to participate — one of the most constructive
opportunities to grow and develop and strengthen our abilities to be effective
as a Public Accounts Committee.
Not seeing any other comments or
questions on that, I’d welcome a member to move the following motion:
That the Standing
Committee on Public Accounts authorize the Chair, the Deputy Chair, one
government member of the committee, one opposition member of the committee to
attend the Canadian Council of Public Accounts Committees, CCPAC, and Canadian
Council of Legislative Auditors, CCOLA, annual conference to be held in Quebec,
Quebec from September 8th to the 10th, 2024; and further,
That if the Chair
or Deputy Chair or opposition member cannot attend, they be authorized to
designate another committee member to attend in their place.
Someone care to move that? Moved by
Deputy Chair Nerlien. Is that all agreed?
Some
Hon. Members: — Agreed.
The
Chair: — All right, that’s carried.
We have one other matter of business
before us here today, and that’s to consider the draft fourth report. The
report covers all of the activities of the committee between May 10th, 2023 to
May 8th, 2024. I’ve got copies here. I want to thank the Clerks for all of
their work in compiling the report. It’s a substantive report and simply a
straightforward accounting or reporting of all of our activities.
Any questions or comments about the
report itself? Not seeing any, I would welcome someone to move a motion:
That the fourth
report of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts be adopted and presented to
the Assembly.
Ms.
Lambert: — I move.
The
Chair: — Moved by Ms. Lambert. All agreed?
Some
Hon. Members: — Agreed.
The
Chair: — That is carried. I’d welcome a
motion of adjournment at this point. Moved by Mr. Harrison. All agreed?
Some
Hon. Members: — Agreed.
The
Chair: — This committee stands adjourned
until the call of the Chair.
[The committee adjourned at 09:08.]
